About us
UP! is a ground-breaking, win-win approach to travel Africa and fund community-led enterprise.
Our small group hosted tours let us share our passion and understanding for this land and its uplifting people.
Our sustainable social investments empower communities through business solutions, fostering resilience and independence rather than relying on charity
Our why
UP! combines the passion of founders Iain Patton and Melissa Mills.
We are based in the UK, but we love Africa, its spell-binding landscape, fascinating wildlife and inspirational people and get there when we can.
Having worked and travelled in East Africa, we have seen first-hand the dependency and confidence-sapping effect of dependency on charity and aid.
Today, we see in Uganda more and more educated young people with huge potential, but who are struggling to get an opportunity to start their business and community development dreams. In short, we believe that investment hand-ups are more effective than charitable hand-outs.
Our approach
Uganda’s future is in the hands of its inspirational people. Focussing on remote, impoverished and climate-challenged North and East Uganda, UP! forms partnerships with small Ugandan-led registered community development organisations.
Together, with the communities we have created a new source of sustainable community funding to invest in their farms and community enterprises. We invite you to join us and become a Uganda Partner.

In many remote African villages, economic development is often hindered by limited access to financial resources and modern agricultural practices. However, small community-scale micro repayable-loan investments and cost-sharing initiatives are proving to be transformative tools for empowering local communities, enhancing food security, and fostering sustainable development Read more about our approach in this Blog
